Anatomy Of A Paddle Stroke - The Head

The head is kept centered and steady.

Some paddlers move their head slightly forwards/backwards, smaller paddlers probably more then taller paddlers, while they emphasize the reach.

Head motion sideways or head rotation do not benefit the forward motion; they rather cost energy.

Anatomy Of A Paddle Stroke - The Sternum

Proper posture is central to a paddler’s ability to engage their lower body. Ideally, a paddler’s posture in the boat should include a slight pelvis tilt (forward) and chest lift (open and upward). The goal should be to lead with the sternum.
